History
A Marvelwood education is characterized by intensive personal attention to the individual student. We are passionate about providing a college preparatory environment which nurtures academic and personal growth and awakens the potential that resides in each of our students. A small, coeducational boarding and day school located just 2 hours from New York City in beautiful Kent, Connecticut, Marvelwood strives always to be a place where each child is known, valued, and treated with respect.
Honors and Advanced Placement courses, English as a foreign language, private Strategies and math tutorial programs, and a dedication to experiential education enable Marvelwood to serve a diverse student body with a wide range of learning styles. Our experienced and dedicated faculty is committed to each student’s success and delivers a superior educational program, attuned to individual strengths and weaknesses. Nonacademic programs including weekly community service, visual and performing arts electives, an impressive slate of interscholastic and noncompetitive sports offerings, and a variety of leadership opportunities increase the potential for engagement and success outside the classroom. In every way, the structure of the School is thoughtfully designed to support college-bound students in their efforts to achieve positive intellectual, social, personal, and moral growth.

Please share a few thoughts about your experiences with The Marvelwood School: Marvelwood helped me become a better student and enrich my academic experience in 3 ways. 1- smaller class size= more 1on 1 attention with teachers/students. this has proven time and again to be the most effective form of teaching. 2- student accountability is key at the Marvelwood school. Kids are encouraged, taught and expected to hold themselves and each other accountable for their actions. Community Service Wednesdays, mandatory sports participation and some of the most awesome field trips imaginable for a high school student offer each student the opportunity to learn, grow, experience and hold themselves accountable for what they're learning and the greater impact we all have on each other's lives. 3-Well rounded academics programs combined with volunteer opportunities, art, sciences and global field trips....this is NOT your grandparent's boarding school. Marvelwood is a 4 year LIFE experience. You make friendships that last forever, you have a fighting chance at getting into a good school, opportunities to express yourself artistically, academically, athletically, philanthropically....my wish is that ALL kids could have a chance to experience what Marvelwood has to offer.

Current Parent/Guardian/Year Graduated: 2013
Please share a few thoughts about your experiences with The Marvelwood School: Marvelwood is an incredible place. There aren't enough words to say what this school has done for my godson. It saved his educational life. He will be the first in his family to graduate from high school. That pretty much says it all. I am forever grateful.
