History
The story of Fountain Valley School began in the late 1920s with the vision of an extraordinary woman, Elizabeth Sage Hare, who believed that a school tied to traditional academic excellence and progressive ideals of individual dignity and creative promise would thrive in the West. She convinced her close friends to join her in establishing a boarding school certain to rival the most prestigious schools in the East.
The 1,100-acre Bradley Ranch, nestled in a valley in the foothills of Pikes Peak, was deemed the perfect location. Its Hacienda, "Casa Serena," designed by renowned architect Addison Mizner, would become the School's focal point and inspiration for what was then, and remains today, a place of permanence in a world of change.
