History of the SchoolFounded in 1905 by John Paul and Alice Allgood Cooper, the School was named for Joseph James Darlington, a teacher who had influenced Mr. Cooper. Darlingtons pupils were determined to perpetuate his beliefs in academic excellence, diligent effort, and the development of character dedicated to the service of God and community. Those ideals have remained prominent through many changes in the School, including the addition of a boarding division in 1923 and the establishment of coeducation and elementary divisions in 1973. Darlington has a proven track record in preparing students well for college and its serenely beautiful campus, impressive facilities, and wealth of academic, athletic, and social opportunities make it an attractive choice for parents. But more significant are the friendly spirit of the School and its long history of inspiring students to take full advantage of their God-given gifts and to grow intellectually, spiritually, morally, physically, culturally, and socially. |
