History
Hargrave Military Academy is a private, Christian boarding school serving boys from grades seven to one postgraduate year in Southwest Virginia. Hargrave offers a 'How to Study' program, discipline, and challenging college preparatory classes in a meaningful, structured environment for each student. The “whole-person” is addressed at Hargrave. Development of personal responsibility, fitness, academic grades and moral character are important goals for each Cadet. Opportunities for personal achievement build a more successful, rewarding future for our students. Small classes, an adviser program and after class office time with instructors ensure that Cadets remain on a positive academic path geared towards success at the collegiate level. Hargrave maintains an average student-teacher ratio of 11:1, which keeps the focus on the student. Hargrave is a USNA Foundation School. Hargrave averages approximately 350 students per year. The Academy maintains accreditation with the Virginia Association of Independent Schools and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Hargrave respects people of all faiths and denominations. Physical exercise and sports are an important part of the Hargrave culture. The Academy fields several athletic teams for all ages and abilities. Recently upgraded sports venues, including a 50m indoor pool, six lighted tennis courts and professional style ball field. Hargrave teams are frequently seen as Virginia Independent Conference champions or contenders. Acceptance to Hargrave is offered based on the candidates’ previous academic record, standardized test results, teacher recommendations and a personal interview during a campus visit. The cost to attend Hargrave is $29,500. Financial aid is available and provided based on both merit and family need. |
